A Look Back: The History of the Complex
The museum complex has a very old building called Traveler's Rest. It was built in 1851. This hotel was very popular with miners. It also welcomed people traveling along Auburn Folsom Road. In 1858, the building became a family home.
How It Became a Winery
In 1868, a German immigrant named Benjamin Bernhard bought the property. He had moved to America in 1846. The property changed again in 1874. It became a winery, a place where wine is made. A new building was added for making wine. Another building for processing grapes was added in 1881.

Today, the museum lets you step back in time. You can see the restored winery building. The processing building is also open to explore. The old home is decorated in the Victorian style. This means it looks like homes did in the late 1800s.
