Berowra Waters is a small suburb located in Northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the main city area of Sydney. This area is part of the Hornsby Shire local government region.

Berowra Waters sits right on Berowra Creek, which is a smaller river that flows into the bigger Hawkesbury River. A special car ferry, called the Berowra Waters Ferry, helps people cross the creek for free. Roads on both sides of the creek wind steeply uphill.

Did you know that famous Australian actress Cate Blanchett and her husband Andrew Upton used to live here?

History of Berowra Waters

The name "Berowra" comes from an Aboriginal word. People once thought it meant "place of many winds." However, it actually means "place of many shells." This name refers to the many shell middens found along Berowra Creek. Shell middens are ancient piles of shells left behind by Aboriginal people after eating shellfish.
