History
How Berry Hill Became a City
A long time ago, much of the land in Berry Hill belonged to a man named William Wells Berry and his family.
On February 28, 1950, the people living in the area voted to become an official city. They voted 138 to 135 in favor of becoming a city. This made Berry Hill the first community in Davidson County to become a city since Belle Meade did so in 1938. When it became a city, Berry Hill had about 1,200 residents. The first mayor of the city was Ralph Rosa, who served for 22 years.
Joining Metropolitan Nashville
In 1963, the governments of Davidson County and the city of Nashville joined together. This created a larger, combined government called a metropolitan government. Because of this, Berry Hill became part of Metropolitan Nashville.
Music Hill: A Recording Hub
Starting in 1970, Berry Hill began to grow into an important place for the music industry in Nashville. That year, a person named Buzz Cason bought two houses in Berry Hill and turned them into his Creative Workshop recording studio.
Since then, many recording studios have opened in the area. Because of this, Berry Hill is sometimes called "Music Hill." This name is a fun play on "Music Row," which is another famous music recording area in Nashville.
