History of Bertram
Bertram was started in 1858. It grew because a railroad line was built there, which was finished in 1859. The city was named after Captain John Bertram. He was a very important person who helped bring the railroad to this area.

Bertram is located in Iowa. It covers an area of about 1.53 square miles (3.97 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
The city is on the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad. This railroad has a large bridge nearby that goes over Big Creek. Bertram is mostly a "bedroom community," which means many people who live there travel to work in a bigger city like Cedar Rapids.
Bertram is also close to Palisades-Kepler State Park, a great place for outdoor activities. The historic Bertram Bridge, which also crosses Big Creek, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important landmark.
