Bertrand Blier (born March 14, 1939 – died January 20, 2025) was a famous French film director and writer. He was known for making movies that often had a unique and sometimes funny style. His 1978 film, Get Out Your Handkerchiefs, won a very important award. It received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This is also known as an Oscar, and it was given at the 51st Academy Awards.

Bertrand Blier was the son of a well-known French actor, Bernard Blier. This meant he grew up around the film world. He directed many films during his career.

Some of his notable movies include Mon Homme from 1996. This film was shown at the 46th Berlin International Film Festival. Another one of his films was How Much Do You Love Me?, made in 2005. This movie was part of the 28th Moscow International Film Festival. At this festival, Bertrand Blier won a special award called the Silver George for Best Director. This award recognized his excellent work in directing the film.

His Life and Passing

Bertrand Blier had a family. With his first wife, Françoise, he had a daughter named Béatrice. He also had a son, Léonard, born in 1993, with actress Anouk Grinberg. Later, he married actress Farida Rahouadj, and they had a daughter named Leila.

Bertrand Blier passed away at his home in Paris on January 20, 2025.
