Beveridge is a small, quiet place in Inyo County, California. It's not a city or a town with its own local government. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's just a collection of homes or buildings without a town council. Beveridge sits high up, about 5,587 feet (1,703 meters) above sea level.

Discovering Beveridge: A Ghost Town's Past

Beveridge started as a busy gold mining town. This was back in the 1880s and early 1900s. People came here hoping to find gold. The town was named after someone important named John Beveridge.

A Mining Town's Story

The Beveridge gold mining camp was active between the 1880s and the 1910s. It even had its own post office for a short time, from 1881 to 1882. The camp was located inside Beveridge Canyon, on the eastern side of the Inyo Mountains.

Today, Beveridge is considered a ghost town. This means most people have left, and it's no longer a busy place.

Exploring the Area

The closest town to Beveridge is Lone Pine. It's about 11 miles (18 km) southwest in the Owens Valley, along Route 395. The Saline Valley is also nearby, about 4 miles (6 km) to the east.

If you visit Beveridge today, you can still see parts of old cabins. There are also pieces of mining equipment and structures built from rocks.
