Bhutan is a small country located in the Himalayas. It first took part in the Olympic Games at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Since that time, Bhutan has sent athletes to every Summer Olympics. However, the country has not yet won an Olympic medal.
For many years, only archers represented Bhutan at the Olympics. This is because archery is the national sport of Bhutan. This changed at the 2012 London Olympics. For the first time, Bhutan sent an athlete who was not an archer. This athlete was Kunzang Choden. She competed in the women's 10-meter air-rifle event. The team from Bhutan in 2012 had no men. Even though Bhutan is a very mountainous country, it has never competed in the Winter Olympic Games.
The Bhutan Olympic Committee helps organize sports in Bhutan. It was created in 1983. The IOC officially recognized it in the same year.
