A Look Back: Bialetti's Story
Alfonso Bialetti learned a lot about working with metal. He spent ten years in France, learning about the aluminium industry. In 1919, he opened his own workshop in Italy. It was in a town called Crusinallo, in his home region of Piedmont. His workshop made products from aluminum. This was the beginning of the Bialetti company.
Alfonso turned his workshop into a place for designing and making things. In 1933, he officially started the Bialetti brand. He decided to focus on making moka pots. A moka pot is a special stovetop coffee maker. Later, his son, Renato Bialetti, took over the company.
The company faced some tough times in the 1970s and 1980s. But in 1993, Bialetti joined with another company called Rondine Italia. They created a new company called Bialetti Industrie S.p.A.. This means it's a public limited company, like a big business. It is based in Brescia, Italy.
Francesco Ranzoni is currently the President and CEO of the company.
Bialetti is very popular in Italy. In 2010, a study found that 90% of Italian families owned a moka pot made by Bialetti. This shows how important the brand is to Italian coffee culture.
