Omegna is a town in Italy. It is located in the Piedmont region, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. The town is about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of Turin.
Omegna sits at the very top of Lago d’Orta, a beautiful lake. The Nigoglia river flows through the town. This river is special because it is the only one that flows out of the lake.
Every Thursday morning, a busy street market takes place along the lake. You can also take a ferry from Omegna to visit other towns around the lake.

Exploring Omegna's Past
Omegna has a long history. People lived here even in ancient times. Archeologists found old items from the late Bronze Age and Iron Age in an area called Cireggio.
The town is first mentioned in history books in 1221 AD. At that time, the people of Omegna decided to join the nearby city of Novara.
Omegna's Growth as an Industrial Hub
In the 1800s and early 1900s, Omegna became an important industrial center. It was famous for making pots and small home appliances. Many people moved to Omegna for work during this time.
In 1913, an electric tramway connected Omegna to the town of Pallanza. Omegna was officially declared a city in 1939.
Omegna During World War II
During World War II, Omegna played a role in the resistance. It was a center for groups who fought against the German and Fascist occupation.

Church of Sant'Ambrogio
This church is an old building with a Romanesque style. It has a main area and two side sections with small chapels. The bell tower is mostly from medieval times. Inside, the church has a Baroque design. It holds an old painting from 1547 and a special container with the remains of St. Vith, who is the patron saint of Omegna.
Ponte Antico (Ancient Bridge)
The Ponte Antico is a bridge built in the 1400s. It crosses the Strona river.
Porta della Valle (Valley Gate)
This gate, also known as Porta Romana, was built around 1100 AD. It is the only one left of Omegna's five medieval gates.
