History of Biberbrugg
How Biberbrugg Got Its Name
For a very long time, Biberbrugg was just a tiny hamlet. It had a bridge (called Brugg in Swiss German) crossing the Biber River. This bridge was very important for people traveling through the area. It was located right before the Biber River joined the Alp River.
The Arrival of Trains
Things started to change a lot in 1877. That's when a train station was built in Biberbrugg. This station was part of the Wädenswil–Einsiedeln railway line. Fourteen years later, in 1891, another railway line was added. This new line was built by the Südostbahn company. It connected Pfäffikon and Arth-Goldau. Because of these two lines, Biberbrugg became a super important junction station. This means it was a place where different train lines met.
Growing into a Village
With the new train station, more people started to live in Biberbrugg. A new settlement grew up around the station. This part of the village was on the southern side of the Biber River. It belonged to the municipality of Einsiedeln. Later, a big motorway was built on the western side of the river. This motorway connected cities like St. Gallen, Rapperswil, Schwyz, and Ingenbohl. The part of Biberbrugg on the west side of the river belongs to the municipality of Feusisberg.
