Big Bird's Egg Catch is a video game made for the Atari 2600 console. It was developed by Atari and Children's Computer Workshop. The game came out in 1983.

How to Play

In Big Bird's Egg Catch, you control Big Bird from Sesame Street. Your goal is to help him catch eggs. Chickens at the top of the screen lay eggs. These eggs roll down twisty slides. Big Bird needs to catch them in a basket on his head.

Scoring Points

Most eggs give you one point. Sometimes, a special golden egg appears. This golden egg is worth five points! If you drop an egg, you lose some points.

Game Levels

As you play, the game gets harder.

  • Eggs move faster.
  • The slides become more complicated.
  • More chickens lay eggs.
  • Sometimes, the slides even disappear for a moment!

The music, "Turkey in the Straw", also speeds up as the game gets tougher.

Counting Eggs

Every now and then, Big Bird leaves the screen. He goes to count all the eggs he has caught. Numbers flash quickly as he counts them up. When he finishes counting, a song plays and Big Bird does a little dance.

Game Over

The game ends in two ways. You might drop too many eggs. Or, you might complete a certain number of counting sessions.

Game Controllers

Big Bird's Egg Catch is similar to other games from its time. One example is Kaboom!. However, this game is different because it does not use a paddle controller. Many games with similar gameplay used paddle controllers.

You could play Big Bird's Egg Catch with an Atari Kid's Controller. This controller was sold separately. You could also use the regular Atari 2600 keyboard controller.
