Big Water is a small town in Kane County, Utah, United States. It is located about 17 miles (27 km) northwest of Page, Arizona. The town is near Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam.
Big Water was first called Glen Canyon City. It was built in the 1950s for workers who were building the Glen Canyon Dam. The town was officially recognized on December 29, 1983.

Town's Unique Political History
Big Water has an interesting political past. In 1986, the town's mayor, Alex Joseph, and the city council made a big change. They decided to leave the Republican Party. Instead, they joined the Libertarian Party.
This made Alex Joseph the first Libertarian mayor in the history of the United States. Big Water also became the first place in the U.S. where every member of the city council was from the Libertarian Party. Later, in 2001, Willy Marshall was elected mayor. He was also a Libertarian.
Geography and Climate
Big Water is located in a dry area. The town covers about 6 square miles (15.5 square kilometers) of land. There is no water within the town's official area.

Big Water has a semi-arid climate. This means it is usually dry, but not a complete desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot. The weather can get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
