Bigga is a small village located in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Upper Lachlan Shire area. The village is found in the Parish of Bigga, which is in the County of Georgiana.

The name Bigga might come from "Biggs Grant," which was an early land grant in the area. Bigga sits on the western side of the Abercrombie Mountains. It is about 91 kilometers (56 miles) northwest of Goulburn and 52 kilometers (32 miles) southeast of Cowra.

Bigga is well-known for producing some of the world's best superfine wool. This type of wool is very soft and high quality.

Discovering Bigga's Past

The first explorer to visit the Bigga area was James Meehan. He traveled through this region in April 1820. He was on his way from Mount McDonald to Bathurst. At that time, the Lachlan River was known as the Fish River.

Early Settlers and Land Sales

The first official land sale in the Bigga region happened in 1835. Samuel A. Blackman bought 1,000 acres of land at a place called Sandy Creek. This Sandy Creek farm became one of the first places in the district to raise fine wool sheep.

During the 1850s, more people wanted to buy land in the area. Many new families moved in and joined the three original families: the McGuinesses, Blackmans, and Hearnes.

Village Growth and Development

After a quiet period, new settlers started arriving again in the 1880s. The village of Bigga was officially created in 1892. In May 1896, a group called the Bigga and Blanket Flat progress association was formed. This group worked to improve the local area.
