Bill Guerin (born November 9, 1970) is a famous American former ice hockey player. He played for 18 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). Today, he is the general manager for the Minnesota Wild hockey team.
Bill Guerin won the Stanley Cup championship twice as a player. He won with the New Jersey Devils and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also played for the United States in the Olympics three times. Bill Guerin was the first player of Hispanic background to play in the NHL.

Playing in the NHL
Bill Guerin was picked fifth overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He played with the Devils from 1991 to 1998. In 1995, he helped the team win the Stanley Cup.
During the 1997–98 season, Guerin was traded to the Edmonton Oilers. He played there for a few years. In November 2001, he was traded again. This time, he joined his hometown team, the Boston Bruins.
After a great season in 2001–02, where he scored 41 goals, Guerin left the Bruins. He signed a five-year contract with the Dallas Stars. However, his time with the Stars was a bit tough. After the 2005–06 season, Dallas decided to end his contract early.
On July 3, 2006, Guerin signed a one-year deal with the St. Louis Blues. He played very well with the Blues. He even got picked for the 2007 All-Star Game. Fans in Dallas gave him a big cheer when he played there. This showed how much they still liked him.
On February 2, 2007, Bill Guerin played his 1,000th NHL game. This is a huge milestone for any player. Later that month, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks. After that, he signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders. On July 9, 2007, he became the captain of the Islanders.
On March 4, 2009, Guerin was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He quickly made an impact. On June 12, 2009, he won his second Stanley Cup with the Penguins. They beat the Detroit Red Wings in an exciting Game 7. It was 14 years between his two Stanley Cup wins. This was one of the longest waits in NHL history.
After the Stanley Cup win, fans and teammates wanted Guerin to stay. He signed a new contract with the Penguins for the 2009–10 season. He became the first player to score 20 goals in a season for seven different teams. This is a very rare achievement!
Bill Guerin announced his retirement from playing on December 6, 2010. He retired as a Pittsburgh Penguin. At that time, he was seventh all-time among American players with 429 goals.
Life After Playing: Management Career
After retiring, Bill Guerin stayed involved in hockey. On June 6, 2011, the Penguins hired him. He became their player development coach. This job helps young players get better.
On June 6, 2014, Guerin was promoted. He became the assistant general manager for the Penguins. He helped the team win two more Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. He also became the general manager for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. This is the Penguins' minor league team.
On August 21, 2019, Bill Guerin became the general manager of the Minnesota Wild. He is now in charge of the entire team. In March 2022, he was recognized for his smart trades.
