William Joseph Phyle (born June 25, 1875 – died August 6, 1953) was a professional baseball player. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota. Bill Phyle played as a pitcher and a Third baseman. He played for several teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) during his career.
Bill Phyle's Baseball Career
Bill Phyle started his MLB journey as a pitcher. He played for the Chicago Orphans from 1898 to 1899. He also pitched for the New York Giants in 1901. Later in his career, in 1906, he played as a third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals.
A Great Start
Bill Phyle had an amazing start to his Major League career. On September 17, 1898, he pitched his very first game. It was a shutout victory for his team, the Chicago Orphans. They won 9-0 against the Washington Senators. A shutout means the opposing team scored zero runs!
After Playing Baseball
After Bill Phyle finished playing baseball, he stayed involved with the sport. He became an umpire. He worked as an umpire in the Pacific Coast League.
