William Percey Wennington (born April 26, 1963) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. He is famous for winning three championships with the Chicago Bulls in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Bill played as a center. He also proudly represented Canada in big events.

He played for Canada in the 1984 Olympics. He also played in the 1983 World University Games. His team won a gold medal there. Bill was also part of the Canadian team that almost made it to the 1992 Olympics. He has been honored in both the Quebec Basketball Hall of Fame and the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bill's Early Basketball Days

Bill Wennington was born in Montreal, Canada. He later moved to New York and went to Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School. There, he played basketball for coach Bob McKillop.

His team, the Crusaders, became very good. At one point, they were ranked number one in their region. They were also among the top 10 teams in the whole country. After high school, Bill went to St. John's University. He played on a team that reached the NCAA Final Four under coach Lou Carnesecca.

Playing as a Professional

Bill Wennington was chosen 16th in the first round of the 1985 NBA draft. The Dallas Mavericks picked him. He played his first few seasons with them. Bill made his first NBA game appearance on October 29, 1985.

Later, on June 26, 1990, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings. Before joining the Chicago Bulls in 1993, Bill played basketball in Italy. He played for a team called Virtus (Knorr) in Bologna.

In 1998, McDonald's restaurants in the Chicago area even sold a special sandwich named after him. It was called the "Beef Wennington." After the amazing Chicago Bulls team of the 1990s broke up, Bill played his last NBA season. He returned to the Sacramento Kings. During his time with the Bulls, he played alongside famous players. These included Ron Harper, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. Bill was the backup center for Luc Longley.

Life After Basketball

After he stopped playing basketball, Bill Wennington became a radio commentator. He now talks about the Bulls games on the radio. In 2005, Bill was honored again. He was inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
