Bismarck is a small, unincorporated community in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that does not have its own local government. It is part of a larger county.
This community is located along West Virginia Route 93 and U.S. Route 48. It is also found near a place called Mount Storm Lake.
Why is it Called Bismarck?
Bismarck was named to honor a famous person from history. This person was Otto von Bismarck (1815–1898). He was a very important leader in Prussia, which was a powerful German state long ago. He served as the Minister President of Prussia. This is like being the main leader of the government.
How the Name Was Chosen
Over time, people spelled the name of the community in different ways. Some spelled it "Bismarch" or "Bismark." To make sure everyone used the same spelling, the Board on Geographic Names made an official decision. In 1895, they officially chose "Bismarck" as the correct spelling for the community.
