Bittern Lake, originally named Rosenroll, is a small village in central Alberta, Canada. It is located between the towns of Camrose and Wetaskiwin, right on Highway 13. The first post office in the area opened in 1899. The village was known as Rosenroll from 1904 to 1911. Its current name, Bittern Lake, comes from the Cree Indigenous people who lived nearby, because of the bittern birds found near the lake.

The village of Bittern Lake is a quiet community in Alberta. It was first established as a village on November 21, 1904, under the name Rosenroll. Later, on December 16, 1911, its name was officially changed to Bittern Lake.
The Lake Itself
The actual Bittern Lake is a unique natural feature. You can't reach it directly by road. It is not recommended for boating or fishing. This is because its waters have a lot of alkali and are quite shallow. However, local people enjoy walking on the scenic trails around the lake. It is also a great spot for watching the many different native birds that build their nests there. For shopping, the nearest larger town is Camrose, Alberta.
