Biwali Bayles (born 15 February 2002) is an Australian professional basketball player. He plays for BBC Nyon in the Swiss Basketball League. He also plays for the Sydney Comets in Australia's NBL1 East league. Biwali won two championships with the Sydney Kings in the NBL. He played college basketball for the University of Hawaii.

Early Life and Sports

Biwali Bayles was born in Brisbane, Australia, on 15 February 2002. When he was very young, his family moved to Redfern, a suburb in Sydney. He grew up in an area called The Block.

At first, Biwali loved rugby league football. He was a big fan of Brisbane Broncos player Jharal Yow Yeh. He even thought about playing rugby professionally. But his mother suggested he try basketball instead. He soon found his passion for the sport.

College Basketball Journey

In January 2020, Biwali decided to play college basketball in the United States. He joined the University of Hawaii team. This is where young players often go to improve their skills before becoming professional.

During his only season there, he was the team's best player for assists. An assist is when you pass the ball to a teammate who then scores. He averaged 2.6 assists per game. He also scored 6.2 points per game. Biwali even made a game-winning three-point shot against Cal State Northridge.

In March 2021, Biwali left college. He decided to become a professional basketball player in Australia.

Playing Professionally

Biwali Bayles has played for several teams in Australia and Europe.

NBL and European Teams

On 27 April 2021, Biwali signed with the Sydney Kings. The Kings play in Australia's top league, the NBL. He helped the Kings win the NBL championship in 2022.

In January 2023, Biwali took a break from the Kings for the rest of the season. Even without him, the Kings won the NBL championship again in 2023!

On 25 May 2023, Biwali joined the Illawarra Hawks. He was a development player for the 2023–24 NBL season. This role helps young players train with the main team.

In August 2024, Biwali moved to Europe. He signed with BBC Nyon, a team in the Swiss Basketball League.

NBL1 League

Besides the NBL, Biwali has also played in the NBL1 league. This is a semi-professional league in Australia.

  • In 2020, he played two games for the BA Centre of Excellence.
  • In 2021, he played two games for the Inner West Bulls.
  • In 2022, he played for the Mackay Meteors in the NBL1 North.
  • In 2023, he played for the North Gold Coast Seahawks, also in the NBL1 North.
  • In 2024, he joined the Sydney Comets in the NBL1 East. He plans to play for the Comets again in 2025.

Playing for Australia

Biwali has proudly represented Australia in international competitions.

In 2019, he won a gold medal. This was at the FIBA U17 Oceania Championships. He played for the Australian national under-17 team. He has also played for the Australian national under-19 team. He competed with them at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Personal Life

Biwali Bayles has a cousin named Quaden. Quaden is known for being an actor.
