Black Mountain Ranch is a neighborhood in the northern part of San Diego, California. It is a suburban community, which means it has many homes and is usually quieter than a big city center. The area covers about 5,100 acres (20.6 square kilometers).

Black Mountain Ranch is located near several other communities. It is north of Rancho Peñasquitos and Torrey Highlands. To the south is the Santa Fe Valley. East of Black Mountain Ranch are Fairbanks Ranch and Rancho Santa Fe. To the west is 4S Ranch.

It took over 17 years to build Black Mountain Ranch. A local San Diego businessman named Fred Maas led this big project. He was involved in city planning and building in ways that are good for the environment.

Black Mountain Ranch is made up of two main housing areas. These are called Santaluz and Del Sur. Santaluz is in the southern part of Black Mountain Ranch. Del Sur is in the northern part.

Getting Around Black Mountain Ranch

You can get to Black Mountain Ranch using several main roads. These include Camino Del Sur, Carmel Valley Road, San Dieguito Road, and Camino Del Norte. Camino Del Sur connects to State Highway 56. This highway then links to major interstates like I-5 and I-15.

Black Mountain Ranch has nice places for outdoor activities.

South Village Neighborhood Park

There is a city park called South Village Neighborhood Park. It is located near Willow Grove Elementary School. You can find it at 14756 Via Azul. This park is just a short distance from Camino del Sur.

Black Mountain Open Space Park

Another great outdoor spot is the Black Mountain Open Space Park. This park is off Carmel Valley Road, east of Camino del Sur. It offers open spaces for hiking and enjoying nature.

The schools in Black Mountain Ranch are part of the Poway Unified School District (PUSD).

Del Sur Elementary School: This school opened in 2008.

Black Mountain Ranch is part of San Diego City Council District 5. This district is currently represented by Marni von Wilpert. The area also has a say in local planning. It falls under the Rancho Penasquitos Planning Board and holds two seats on this board. This means people from Black Mountain Ranch help make decisions about the future development of the area.
