The Blackfaced Percher (scientific name: Diplacodes melanopsis) is a cool type of dragonfly. It belongs to a group of dragonflies called the Libellulidae family. People often call it the black-faced percher because of its unique look!

This small dragonfly lives in Australia. You can find it in many places, from around Brisbane all the way to the border between South Australia and Victoria.

What Does the Blackfaced Percher Look Like?

Blackfaced Perchers are small but very interesting to look at.

Male Blackfaced Perchers

• Adult male Blackfaced Perchers have a very special feature: a black face.
• The front part of their body is also black.
• Their tail, called the abdomen, is usually a bright red color.
• You might also see some black marks on their red abdomen.

Female Blackfaced Perchers

• Female Blackfaced Perchers look a bit different from the males.
• They are usually a pretty amber and yellow color.
• Just like the males, they also have black markings on their bodies.
