The Blackfoot Mountains are mostly covered in a type of land called a shrub-steppe. This means it's a hilly area with lots of sagebrush plants. You will also see juniper trees growing here.

Water and Plants

Even though it's a dry area, there are many springs. Small streams also flow through the mountains. These wet spots create special areas called microclimates. In these microclimates, plants that need more water can grow.

Mountain Rocks

The mountains themselves are mainly made of a rock called basalt. Basalt is a dark, fine-grained rock. It forms when lava cools down quickly.
