Station History
Blackwood station first opened its doors in 1883. This happened when the train line from Adelaide to Aldgate was completed. This line was part of the bigger Adelaide-Melbourne railway.
Key Dates and Changes
On June 18, 1928, Blackwood became a temporary end point for the double track section coming from Eden Hills. A few days later, on June 24, 1928, the double track was extended all the way to Belair. In 1940, a special bridge for people to walk over the tracks, called a footbridge, was added.
Busy Hub and Unique Features
Blackwood is one of the busiest stations on the Belair line. It's special because it's the only station on this line with a bus interchange. This means you can easily switch from a train to many different bus routes here.
Blackwood and Mitcham are the only stations between Goodwood and Belair that have more than one platform in use. This allows trains to pass each other. Blackwood is also unique because trains usually use the right platform here, instead of the left. After Blackwood station, there isn't another place for trains to pass until Belair.
Modern Updates
In 1995, the station saw a big change. As part of a national project, a new standard gauge track was added on the eastern side of the station. This was done to make the Adelaide-Melbourne line suitable for different types of trains. In 2009, the station got a fresh new look with a facelift.
Train Services by Platform
Trains at Blackwood station use two platforms. Both platforms can take you to either Adelaide or Belair.
