Blair Armstrong Kiel (born November 29, 1961 – died April 8, 2012) was an American football player. He played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL), Canadian Football League (CFL), and Arena Football League (AFL). Before playing professionally, he was a four-year starting quarterback and punter for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college team.
Blair Kiel was honored by being inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1998. After his football career, he worked to help young athletes plan for their future after sports.

College Football Star
Blair Kiel went to Columbus East High School in Indiana. He was considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country. He received a scholarship to play for the University of Notre Dame.
Playing for Notre Dame
Kiel became the starting quarterback during his first year at Notre Dame in 1980. That season, his team had an amazing 9-0-1 record. They were ranked #2 in the nation before losing their last two games.
Blair Kiel became the sixth all-time leading passer for Notre Dame. He also holds the record for the team's longest pass play. This was a 96-yard throw to Joe Howard in 1981. In his final college game, he led his team to victory in the Liberty Bowl.
Professional Football Journey
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked Blair Kiel in the 1984 NFL Draft. He mostly played as a holder for kicks during his time there. Later, he played for the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons. He was both a quarterback and a punter for them.
Teams and Leagues
After the Colts, Kiel spent three years with the Green Bay Packers. He then played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Arena Football League (AFL). He retired from playing football at the end of 1993.
