Blake Sims (born January 4, 1991) is an American high school football coach and former player. He is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. He started this coaching role in 2023. Blake played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was their main quarterback in 2014.

Early Life and High School Sports

Blake Sims grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. He went to Gainesville High School. Before that, he played at Cass High School for two years. At Gainesville, he was a star quarterback. His team had a great record of 14 wins and only 1 loss. They even made it to the state championship game.

As a junior in 2008, Blake threw for 2,785 yards. He also ran for 822 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. In his senior year, he threw for 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for 863 yards and 13 touchdowns. Blake was named an All-State player twice. This was a big honor for him.

Blake was also a talented track and field athlete. He was one of the fastest sprinters in his state. He won the long jump event in 2009. He also won the 100-meter and 200-meter races. His fastest time in the 100 meters was 10.69 seconds.

Many colleges wanted Blake to play for them. He was considered a top athlete in the nation. He chose to play football at the University of Alabama. He picked Alabama over other big schools like Tennessee and Georgia.

College Football Career

Blake Sims spent his first few years at Alabama as a running back. He was also a backup quarterback. In 2014, he became the starting quarterback for his senior season. He won the starting job over another talented player, Jake Coker.

On September 20, 2014, Blake had an amazing game against Florida. He threw for 445 yards. This was the second-highest passing yardage in Alabama's history. On December 6, 2014, he broke a school record. He passed for the most yards in a single season for Alabama.

In 14 games as a starter, Blake threw for 3,487 yards. He also had 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in passing touchdowns that year. His team played in the Sugar Bowl semifinals. They lost to Ohio State, who later won the national championship.

Professional Football Journey

After college, Blake Sims was not chosen in the 2015 NFL Draft. This meant he was a free agent. He tried out for the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins. He tried out as a running back for both teams. However, he was not offered a contract by either team.

Canadian Football League

Blake then signed with the Toronto Argonauts in Canada in May 2015. He was released a short time later. In July 2015, he joined another Canadian team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was on their active roster for one game. He was released in September but later re-signed in October. He did not play in any games for the Roughriders before being released again in December 2015.

Australia and NFL Practice Squads

In July 2016, Blake went to Australia to play football. He joined the Wollongong Devils in the National Gridiron League. Later that year, he returned to the U.S. He was signed to the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons in September 2016. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released from the Falcons' practice squad later that month.

In December 2016, Blake joined the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He signed a future contract with them in January 2017. This meant he would be with the team for the next season. However, he was released by the Buccaneers in August 2017.

Alliance of American Football and Indoor Football

After his time with the Buccaneers, Blake was assigned to the Birmingham Iron. This team was part of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). He was chosen by the Iron in the league's quarterback draft. He was placed on injured reserve in February 2019. He was later released from injured reserve in April 2019.

In February 2022, Blake signed with the Frisco Fighters. This team plays in the Indoor Football League. On August 25, 2022, Blake Sims announced his retirement from playing professional football.

Coaching Career

On March 17, 2023, Blake Sims shared exciting news. He announced that he became a football coach. He is now the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. This means he helps plan the team's offense and trains the quarterbacks.
