Blake Sims, born on January 4, 1991, is an American football coach and a former player. He is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. He has held this coaching role since 2023. Before coaching, Blake played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was their main quarterback in 2014.

Early Life and High School Sports
Blake Sims grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. He went to Gainesville High School. There, he was a star in both football and track. Before Gainesville, he played at Cass High School during his first two years.
Football Success in High School
At Gainesville High, Blake played quarterback for coach Bruce Miller. In 2008, as a junior, he helped his team achieve a 14–1 record. They finished as state runners-up. He threw for 2,785 yards and ran for 822 yards, scoring 15 touchdowns.
As a senior, he threw for 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for 863 yards and 13 touchdowns. Blake was recognized twice as an All-State player by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Associated Press in 2009.
Track and Field Achievements
Blake was also a top sprinter in track and field. In 2009, he won the long jump event with a jump of 6.58 meters. He also won the 100 meters (10.85 seconds) and 200 meters (21.84 seconds) at a local meet. In 2010, he won the 100 meters at another event with a time of 10.84 seconds. His fastest time in the 100 meters was 10.69 seconds.
Choosing a College Team
Experts like Rivals.com considered Blake a top recruit. He was ranked as the 33rd best athlete in the country. He was also among the top 50 prospects in Georgia. Blake decided to play for Alabama. He chose them over other big schools like Tennessee and Georgia.
College Football Career
Blake Sims spent his first few years at Alabama as a running back and a backup quarterback. In 2014, during his senior year, he became the starting quarterback. He won the job over another player, Jake Coker.
Breaking Records at Alabama
On September 20, 2014, Blake threw for 445 yards against the Florida Gators. This was the second-highest passing yardage in Alabama's history at that time. On December 6, 2014, he broke the school record for most passing yards in a single season. This record was previously held by A. J. McCarron.
In 14 games as a starter, Blake threw for 3,487 yards. He also had 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in passing touchdowns that year. His team played in the Sugar Bowl semifinals but lost to Ohio State. Ohio State later won the National Championship.

Professional Football Journey
After college, Blake Sims was not chosen in the 2015 NFL draft. This meant he became a free agent, able to sign with any team. He tried out with the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins as a running back, but he did not get a contract from either team.
Playing in Canada
On May 28, 2015, Blake signed with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was released shortly after, on June 7, 2015. Later that year, on July 29, 2015, he signed with another CFL team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was on their active roster for one game before being cut on September 15, 2015. He was re-signed by the Roughriders in October 2015 but did not play in any games for them before being released again in December 2015.
Playing in Australia
In July 2016, Blake moved to Australia to continue his football career. He joined the Wollongong Devils in the National Gridiron League.
Time in the NFL
Blake returned to the United States and signed with the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad on September 13, 2016. He was released ten days later. On December 28, 2016, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad. He signed a future contract with them in January 2017 but was waived in August 2017.
Indoor and Alliance Football
After his time with the Buccaneers, Blake was assigned to the Birmingham Iron in the Alliance of American Football. He was chosen by the Iron in their quarterback draft in November 2018. He was later placed on injured reserve in February 2019.
On February 27, 2022, Blake signed with the Frisco Fighters of the Indoor Football League. He announced his retirement from professional football on August 25, 2022.
Coaching Career Begins
On March 17, 2023, Blake Sims shared that he had started a new chapter in his career. He became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy.
