Bleiswijk (pronounced like blice-wike) is a lovely town in the western part of the Netherlands. It is located in the province of South Holland, which is known for its beautiful landscapes and historic cities.
About Bleiswijk
Bleiswijk is a charming place that used to be its own separate municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. It means Bleiswijk had its own local council and mayor.
Location and Size
This town is situated in the western Netherlands. It is part of the South Holland province. The total area of Bleiswijk is about 21.96 square kilometers. To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of 2,200 football fields! A small part of this area, about 0.84 square kilometers, is covered by water.
Population
As of January 2020, about 10,895 people live in Bleiswijk. This number has grown a bit over the years. For example, in 2006, the population was around 10,222 people.
Becoming Part of Lansingerland
Something important happened to Bleiswijk on January 1, 2007. It joined with two nearby towns, Bergschenhoek and Berkel en Rodenrijs. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Lansingerland. This means that Bleiswijk is now a town within the Lansingerland municipality, rather than being a municipality all by itself. This kind of merger often happens to make local government more efficient.
