Blenda Glen Gay (November 22, 1950 – December 20, 1976) was an American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Blenda played for the San Diego Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for three seasons in the NFL.
Blenda Gay's Early Life and College
Blenda Gay was born on November 22, 1950. He grew up in Greenville, North Carolina. For high school, he went to H. B. Sugg High School in Farmville, North Carolina.
After high school, Blenda went to Fayetteville State University. This university is located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. While there, he was a star player on the football team. He earned special honors, being named all-CIAA. He was also chosen as a Division II All-American.
Blenda Gay's Professional Football Career
Blenda Gay started his professional football journey in 1973. He was picked in the NFL supplemental draft by the Oakland Raiders. However, he did not stay with the Raiders. He was released during their training camp.
In 1974, the San Diego Chargers signed him. He played in two games for the Chargers that season. Before joining the Chargers, he also played for a semi-pro team. This team was called the Model City Diplomats. He earned $75 for each game he played.
In 1975, Blenda Gay joined the Philadelphia Eagles. He quickly became an important player for their defensive line. He played in every regular season game for the Eagles. This was true for both the 1975 and 1976 seasons. He was a consistent player for the team.
Blenda Gay's Passing
