What is Blizzard About?
The story begins with a ten-year-old girl named Jess. She feels very sad because her friend Bobby has moved away. To cheer her up, Jess's Aunt Millie tells her a special story. This story is about another ten-year-old girl named Katie. Katie loves to ice-skate.
Katie's Skating Journey
Katie practices skating on an outdoor rink near her home. There, she meets Otto Brewer. Otto is a former Olympic skating champion. He offers to teach Katie how to skate properly. Under his guidance, Katie becomes a wonderful skater. But then, Katie's family has to move to a big city. This happens because her father loses his job, and Katie is very upset.
Blizzard the Reindeer
Meanwhile, far away at the North Pole, Santa and his elves are celebrating. A new baby reindeer is born! Her name is Blizzard. She is the daughter of Blitzen and Delphi. Blizzard quickly shows she has three amazing magical gifts. She can fly, make herself invisible, and she has "empathic navigation." This means she can see and understand feelings with her heart.
Blizzard Helps Katie
Using her special gift, Blizzard feels Katie's sadness. She flies all the way to Katie's home to find out what's wrong. Even though there are strict rules at the North Pole, Blizzard decides to help Katie. She teaches Katie that true friendships never really go away.
However, breaking the North Pole rules means Blizzard might be banished. This decision is up to Archimedes, Santa's very strict head elf. Only true friendship can save Blizzard now. Katie's former bully, Erin, becomes a good friend. Katie saves Erin from drowning in a frozen pond, with Blizzard's help.
