Len Carlson (born December 7, 1937 – died March 31, 2017) was a talented Canadian voice actor. He brought many characters to life in animated TV shows starting in the 1980s. You might also have seen him in live-action TV shows sometimes. In the 1980s, he was also a TV pitchman for Kraft Canada. Len Carlson was born in Edmonton and used to be a professional athlete.
Len Carlson's Amazing Voice Work
Len Carlson was known for his incredible voice acting skills. He voiced many characters in popular cartoons. For example, he was the voice of Big Boss, Sundown, and Mace in C.O.P.S.. He also voiced Ganon in The Legend of Zelda TV series.
Fans of X-Men (1992) might remember him as the voice of Senator Robert Kelly. He also voiced the Supreme Intelligence in that show. He was Bert Raccoon in The Raccoons and Putter in Popples. He even directed voices for Popples from 1990 onwards.
Len Carlson was also Mr. Frumble in The Busy World of Richard Scarry. He played Professor Coldheart in the early Care Bears series by DiC Entertainment. If you watched Rocket Robin Hood, you might have heard his voice in some third-season episodes. He was Allo and Quackpot on Dinosaucers. He was also the original voice of the Green Goblin in Spider-Man the original series (1967). Later, he voiced Buzz in the show Cyberchase (2002).
He also voiced Sterling Überbucks, his brother Carling, his great-grandfather Sterling Überrucks, and his nephew Stewie on Roboroach (2002). He was the main character in the short-lived Swamp Thing (1991) animated series.
Len Carlson voiced all the male characters in two animated 1970s series: The Undersea Adventures of Captain Nemo and The Toothbrush Family. He was Ace the Seagull and Sharkey Shark in The Waterville Gang. He also did voices for several movies. These included The Nutcracker Prince and Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-lot. He voiced characters in both Rolie Polie Olie movies, The Baby Bot Chase and The Great Defender of Fun. He even voiced reindeer in the live-action movie Blizzard.
In his later years, Carlson often worked on shows produced by Nelvana. These included Rolie Polie Olie, Cyberchase, Pecola, and Donkey Kong Country. He was also in Medabots, Beetlejuice, and Beyblade, where he played the villain Gideon in season two. More recently, he appeared in Atomic Betty. He voiced Hugo and Q in the video game Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. He also narrated the animated Bible TV series Friends and Heroes. He voiced Herc Stormsailor in the 1980s show Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.
His Final Years
Len Carlson passed away on March 24, 2017, at the age of 70. He died from a heart attack in Keswick, Ontario.
