A Block House steak in Portugal

Block House AG is a popular restaurant chain from Hamburg, Germany. These restaurants are famous for their delicious steaks.

The company was started in 1968 by Eugen Block and his sister, Marlies Head. Today, Block House has 53 restaurants across Europe. Most of them, 42, are in Germany. Other restaurants are run by partners in Portugal, Spain, and Austria. The Block House chain is part of a bigger company called Block Gruppe, which employs 2,600 people.

The Story of Block House

The very first Block House restaurant opened its doors on September 28, 1968. It was located on Dorotheenstraße in the Winterhude area of Hamburg.

In 1973, Eugen Block decided to open his own butcher's shop. This helped the restaurants get fresh, high-quality meat. Later, in 1985, Block also started a five-star hotel called Elysée in Hamburg. This hotel was updated and made bigger in 2006. It is now known as the Grand Elysée.

The first Block House restaurant outside of Germany opened in Málaga in 1996. Eugen Block's daughter, Christina Block, is involved in running the steakhouse chain today.

Jim Block Restaurants

In 1973, the company created a new brand called Jim Block. This was a smart way to use all the meat from their steak production. The main food at Jim Block restaurants is tasty hamburgers.

Today, there are 12 Jim Block restaurants. You can find them in cities like Hamburg, Berlin, and Hanover.
