Her family has a rich heritage. Her grandmother is from the Oglala Lakota Nation. This nation is located on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Her great-grandfather was Apache.
Blu Hunt studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This helped her prepare for her career.

In 2017, Blu Hunt became well-known for her role in The Originals. This was a supernatural drama series on The CW. She played a powerful Native American witch named Inadu Labonair. This character was also known as The Hollow.
