Blue Jay Creek is a cool river located on Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. It flows through parts of Central Manitoulin and Tehkummah areas. This creek eventually flows into Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes.

Where Does Blue Jay Creek Flow?

Blue Jay Creek starts from a spring. This spring is found about 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi) east of a place called Sandfield. It's also near Lake Manitou in Central Manitoulin. The starting point is quite high up, at about 275 metres (902 ft) above sea level.

The Creek's Journey

From its source, the creek flows south. It goes under Ontario Highway 542. Then, it passes to the east of the community of Tehkummah. The creek then turns southwest. Along its way, it meets another creek called Black Creek, which joins it from the right side.

Reaching Lake Huron

Finally, Blue Jay Creek reaches its end at Michael's Bay. This bay is part of Lake Huron. The mouth of the creek is near the community of Michael's Bay. It's also about 1.2 kilometres (0.7 mi) southeast of where the Manitou River enters the lake. The community of South Baymouth is about 7 kilometres (4 mi) to the northwest.

Protecting Blue Jay Creek

People care a lot about Blue Jay Creek and the Manitou River. In 2001, a plan was made to improve these waterways. This plan was called the Blue Jay Creek and Manitou River Enhancement Strategy. It was officially approved in 2003.

What the Plan Does

The Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association is an organization that works on this plan. They have done a lot to fix up different spots along the creek. Their efforts have made the water cleaner. They have also helped improve the places where fish live, which is great for the local fishing.

Parks Along the Creek

A part of Blue Jay Creek is included in a special area called Blue Jay Creek Provincial Park. This park helps protect the creek and its surroundings, especially near where it flows into Lake Huron.
