Blue Origin NS-21 was a special trip into space. It was run by a company called Blue Origin. The mission launched on June 4, 2022, using their New Shepard rocket. This was Blue Origin's fifth time sending people into space. It was their twenty-first space trip overall.
The flight was first planned for May 20, 2022. But it was delayed because a backup system wasn't working perfectly. The new launch date, June 4, 2022, was announced a few days later.
Charles Duke, a famous astronaut, was a special guest at the launch.
The Crew
Six people flew on the NS-21 mission. One of them was Evan Dick. He had flown on a New Shepard flight before. This made him the first person to fly on the New Shepard rocket twice!
Amazing Achievements
Another crew member was Katya Echazarreta. She became the first woman born in Mexico to fly to space. She was also the youngest American woman to reach space.
Victor Vescovo was also on board. He is a very famous explorer of the deep ocean.
How Some Seats Were Paid For
Katya Echazarreta's seat was paid for by the Space For Humanity group. Blue Origin and some past passengers, Lane and Cameron Bess, also helped pay. Katya is a student at Johns Hopkins University. She has worked on important missions like Mars 2020 and Europa Clipper.
Victor Correa Hespanha was the second person from Brazil to go to space. He got his seat by buying a special digital item called an NFT. This NFT cost about R$ 4,000 (which was around US$750 at the time). Because of this, some people called him the "world’s first cryptonaut."
