Robert "Bob" Peterson (born January 25, 1932 – died July 30, 2011) was an American basketball player. He played as a forward in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His professional career lasted for three seasons, from 1953 to 1956.
Early Life and College Basketball
Bob Peterson grew up in Redwood City, California. He attended Sequoia High School. After high school, he continued his basketball journey.
Peterson played college basketball at two different schools. First, he played for San Mateo Junior College. Later, he joined the University of Oregon. While at Oregon, he was recognized as a top player. In 1951, he was named to the First-team All-PCC. This honor meant he was one of the best players in his college conference.
Playing in the NBA
After his college career, Bob Peterson was ready for the pros. The Baltimore Bullets picked him in the 1953 NBA draft. He was the 17th player chosen overall.
Peterson started his first NBA season with the Bullets. However, he soon moved to the Milwaukee Hawks. During this rookie year, he played in eight games. He averaged about 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
Before the 1954–55 season, Peterson joined the New York Knicks. He played for the Knicks for two seasons. He was a power forward and small forward. Over his entire NBA career, Peterson played in 103 games. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Later Life
Bob Peterson passed away on July 30, 2011. He was 79 years old.
