Robert Matthew Byrne (born December 31, 1884 – died December 31, 1964) was a talented American baseball player. He played as a third baseman in Major League Baseball for 11 seasons. From 1907 to 1917, Bobby played for several famous teams. These included the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago White Sox. He was known for batting and throwing with his right hand. Bobby Byrne was born in St. Louis, Missouri.

Bobby Byrne's Baseball Career
Bobby Byrne was a very fast player. He was also great at defense, covering a lot of ground at third base. He began his professional baseball journey with the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1907 season.
Joining the Pittsburgh Pirates
In August 1909, Bobby was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He quickly became an important player for his new team. His arrival helped the Pirates, especially by allowing another player, Tommy Leach, to stay in center field.
Bobby often batted first in the Pirates' lineup. He made very few errors and had a batting average of .256. He also stole eight bases that season.
His Best Season in Baseball
Bobby Byrne had his most successful year in 1910. He achieved his highest numbers in many areas:
