Bobby J. Dawson, born on February 18, 1966, is an American who used to play professional football. He was a defensive back, which means he helped stop the other team from scoring. Bobby played for seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Memphis Mad Dogs, and Ottawa Rough Riders.
He was also chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL) draft. Before going pro, he played college football at Sacramento City College and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. In 1990, he was named the Most Outstanding Rookie for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Bobby Dawson's Early Life and College Football
Bobby J. Dawson was born in Sacramento, California, on February 18, 1966. He went to Hiram W. Johnson High School in Sacramento.
He started his college football career at Sacramento City College. He played there from 1984 to 1985. Later, he moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He played for the Illinois Fighting Illini in 1986 and 1987. In 1987, he was recognized as one of the best players in the Big Ten Conference.
Bobby Dawson's Professional Football Career
Bobby Dawson was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1988 NFL draft. This is when NFL teams choose new players. He was the 295th player chosen overall. He signed with the Steelers in 1988 but was released later that year.
Playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats
In 1990, Dawson joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played in 15 games that year. He made 51 tackles and caught three interceptions. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player. Because of his great first year, he was named the Tiger-Cats' Most Outstanding Rookie.
He continued to play well in 1991. He had 72 tackles and five interceptions in 15 games. In 1992, he played in all 18 games for the Tiger-Cats. He recorded 76 tackles and four interceptions. One of his interceptions was returned 25 yards for a touchdown! The Tiger-Cats had a good season, winning 11 games.
In 1993, Dawson played in 11 games. He made 33 tackles and had two interceptions. One of these interceptions also led to a touchdown. He played his last season with the Tiger-Cats in 1994. He had 35 tackles and three interceptions in eight games.
Time with the Memphis Mad Dogs and Ottawa Rough Riders
In 1995, Dawson played for a new team, the Memphis Mad Dogs. He played in 13 games for them. He made 58 tackles and had one interception.
His final season was in 1996 with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the CFL. He played in one game for them before ending his professional career.
