Robert Raymond Hendricks (born February 22, 1938 – died March 25, 2022) was an American R&B singer. He became famous in the late 1950s with two popular songs that appeared on music charts.

Life and Music Career

Bobby Hendricks was born in Columbus, Ohio. When he was 16, he joined his first music group, the Crowns. After that, he was part of other groups like The Swallows and The Flyers.

Joining The Drifters

In 1957, Bobby joined a very famous group called The Drifters. He sang the main part on some of their songs, including "Drip Drop". Later, he started a successful solo career.

Solo Hits

His song "Itchy Twitchy Feeling" became a big hit. It reached number 5 on the R&B Singles chart. It also hit number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1958. His old band even made their own version of the song!

Bobby's only other song to make it onto the charts was "Psycho." This was a novelty song, which means it was a fun, unusual song. It was about a psychiatrist talking to a patient. "Psycho" reached number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. A New York City radio DJ named Dr. Jive (whose real name was Tommy Smalls) was the voice of the psychiatrist in the song.

Later Years and Legacy

From 1961, Bobby Hendricks often worked as the lead singer for Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters. He appeared with them on TV shows like Doo Wop 51 and Doo Wop Love Songs on PBS. He sang "Stand By Me" with other famous singers like Bill Pinkney, Charlie Thomas, and Ben E. King.

Bobby Hendricks passed away at his home in Lancaster, California, on March 25, 2022. He was 84 years old. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016.
