Starting His Professional Career
Mitchell began his professional baseball career when he was signed by the Boston Red Sox in 1965. This is how many players start their path to the major leagues. Later, in 1968, the New York Yankees picked him in a special event called the Rule 5 Draft. This draft allows teams to pick players from other teams' minor league rosters.

During his time in MLB, Mitchell was a right-handed batter and thrower. He was 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 185 pounds. He had 143 hits in 609 at bats. An at bat is when a player tries to hit the ball. He also hit 29 doubles (hitting the ball and reaching second base) and six triples (hitting the ball and reaching third base). He also had 14 stolen bases, which means he ran to the next base without the ball being hit.
Baseball in Japan
