Bobby Portis Jr. was born on February 10, 1995. He is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Before joining the NBA, Bobby played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. In 2015, he was named a second-team All-American. The Chicago Bulls picked him in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft. In 2021, he helped the Milwaukee Bucks win an NBA championship.

High school career
Bobby Portis played high school basketball at Hall High School. This school is in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a very talented player in high school.
In 2013, he was named a McDonald's All-American. He also earned Parade All-American honors. That same year, he was named Mr. Basketball of Arkansas. He was a key player for the Arkansas Razorbacks team.
College career
As a freshman at Arkansas, Bobby Portis played very well. He scored about 12.3 points per game. He also grabbed 6.8 rebounds and blocked 1.6 shots per game. He was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team. He also made the second-team All-SEC.
In his second year, Portis continued to lead the team. He averaged 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. He was one of the top 20 players considered for the John R. Wooden Award. This award is for the best college player in the nation.
On March 10, 2015, Bobby was named the SEC Player of the Year. This was a big honor for him and his team. He was the first Arkansas player to win this award since 1995. Many people thought he would be a top pick in the 2015 NBA draft.
Professional career
Chicago Bulls (2015–2019)
On June 25, 2015, the Chicago Bulls chose Bobby Portis. He was the 22nd player picked in the 2015 NBA draft. He signed his first NBA contract on July 7, 2015.
In his first NBA game on November 3, 2015, he scored 10 points. On December 19, 2015, he had a great game. He scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the New York Knicks.
In 2016, the Bulls kept Portis on their team. On January 6, 2017, he played for the Windy City Bulls. This is Chicago's minor league team. He was called back to the main team the next day. On March 18, 2017, he scored a career-high 22 points. This helped the Bulls win against the Utah Jazz.
On November 7, 2017, Portis had 21 points and 13 rebounds. On December 15, he scored a new career high of 27 points. He also had 12 rebounds in a win over the Milwaukee Bucks. On February 22, 2018, he set another career high with 38 points. This was in a close game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
In October 2018, Portis had 20 points and 11 rebounds in the season opener. Later that month, he hurt his right knee. He missed several weeks of games. He also missed time in December due to an ankle sprain. He returned to play in January 2019. On January 30, he scored 22 points in the second half. This helped the Bulls beat the Miami Heat.
Washington Wizards (2019)
On February 6, 2019, Bobby Portis was traded to the Washington Wizards. He played his first game for the Wizards two days later. He scored 30 points, helping his new team win.
New York Knicks (2019–2020)

The Bucks went on to win the 2021 NBA Finals. They beat the Phoenix Suns 4–2. Portis scored 16 points in the final game. This helped the Bucks win the championship.
On August 6, 2021, Portis signed a new contract with the Bucks. On November 24, 2021, he scored 28 points and 10 rebounds. On December 10, he had 21 points and 7 rebounds. In February 2022, he scored a season-high 30 points. He made six three-pointers in that game.
In June 2022, Portis signed another contract with the Bucks. This was a four-year deal. On December 3, 2022, he scored 20 points and had 7 assists. In January 2023, he had some injuries. He returned to play in March. On March 9, he scored a season-high 28 points. In April, he won his first NBA Player of the Week award. He finished third in voting for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.
On December 16, 2023, Portis scored 31 points. This was his highest score with the Bucks. On March 17, 2024, he scored 31 points again. He also had 10 rebounds and three steals.
National team career
Bobby Portis has also played for the United States national team. He was part of the team in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The team finished fourth in that tournament.

Personal life
Bobby Portis believes his faith has helped him a lot. He feels that God has blessed him on his journey.
He has his own charity called the Bobby Portis Foundation. This group helps single mothers in Arkansas. They create programs and activities for them.
In October 2022, Portis started a campaign. He worked with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He also worked with Milwaukee mayor Cavalier Johnson. The goal was to help lower reckless driving and speeding in Wisconsin.
