Bodfish is a small community in the southern part of the Kern River Valley in Kern County, California, United States. It is located in the beautiful Southern Sierra Nevada mountains.
Bodfish is about 32 miles (51 km) east-northeast of Bakersfield. It sits at an elevation of 2,687 feet (819 meters) above sea level.
In 2020, the population of Bodfish was 2,008 people. This was a small increase from 1,956 people in 2010, and 1,823 people in 2000.
History of Bodfish
The community of Bodfish is named after George Homer Bodfish. He was one of the first settlers in the area, arriving in 1867.
Bodfish first had its own post office in 1892. It closed for a short time in 1895 but then reopened in 1906. The post office from a nearby place called Vaughn was also moved to Bodfish in 1906.
