Boechout is a town in Belgium. It is located in the Antwerp province, which is part of the Flemish area of Belgium.
Boechout is a "municipality," which means it's like a local government area. It includes the main town of Boechout and another town called Vremde
. In 2021, about 13,526 people lived in Boechout. The total area of the municipality is about 20.66 square kilometers.Boechout is also famous for hosting the Sfinks Festival. This is a big music festival that brings people together from all over.
History of Boechout
Boechout has a long history. It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 974. At that time, it was called "Villa Buocholt." It belonged to a place called the Saint Bavo's Abbey in Ghent.
Boechout was once part of the Duchy of Brabant. This was a powerful area in the past. In 1357, the Count of Flanders took control of Boechout, along with Antwerp and Hove. But in 1406, Boechout was given back to Brabant.
The town faced tough times during wars. It was badly damaged several times in the 1500s. It also suffered a lot of damage during World War I. In 1977, the nearby town of Vremde officially joined Boechout to form one larger municipality.
