The Bolling–Gatewood House is a special historic home in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Today, it is known as the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum. This museum honors Ida B. Wells, a brave and important woman who was born in this house. She was a journalist and fought for civil rights and women's right to vote.

Where is the Bolling–Gatewood House?
The house is located at 220 Randolph Street North in Holly Springs. This is a small town in northern Mississippi. It is easy to find, just off U.S. Route 78.
Discovering the House's History
The Bolling–Gatewood House was finished in 1858. It was designed as a two-story wooden cottage. The style is called Greek Revival. This means it looks like ancient Greek buildings. The front porch has five sections and columns that are shaped like octagons. The cottage is painted white.
A master builder named Spires Boling designed and built the house. He also designed other famous buildings nearby. Ida B. Wells was born in this house in 1862. She later became a very important Civil Rights activist.
The Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum
Later, the house became the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum. The museum shares the amazing stories of African Americans. It shows their contributions to history, art, and culture.
In July 2013, special trees were planted in the garden. These trees honor three of Ida B. Wells's important grandchildren:
- Benjamin C. Duster III (1927–2011), who was a lawyer.
- Charles E. Duster, Sr. (1929–1991), who was an architect.
- Donald L. Duster (1932–2013), who was a business leader.
Why is This House Important?
The Bolling–Gatewood House is very important for its history and architecture. It is part of the East Holly Springs Historic District. Because of its importance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 1983. This is a list of places that are important to the history of the United States.
Also, since 2000, it has been recognized as a Mississippi Landmark. This means it is a special place in the state of Mississippi.
