Mississippi Landmark facts for kids
A Mississippi Landmark is a special building or place that the state of Mississippi officially recognizes as very important to its history. It's like giving a property a "superstar" award! This award means the place is protected, so people can't easily change it or tear it down.
Currently, there are about 890 Mississippi Landmarks. You can find them in almost every county in Mississippi, all 81 of them! Only one county, Issaquena County, doesn't have any landmarks yet.
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is the group that decides which places become landmarks. They have a special online tool where you can search for these historic spots. It's kept up-to-date, so you can always find the newest landmarks!
