Bomarton (pronounced BOH-mer-tun) is a small, quiet place in Baylor County, Texas, United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Back in 2000, only 15 people lived there. Today, it's mostly known as a ghost town.

History of Bomarton

Bomarton started in 1906. This was when the Wichita Valley Railroad built tracks from Seymour to Abilene. A person named W. T. Bomar was one of the first people to live in the area. The town was named after him.

Early Community Life

The first post office opened in Bomarton in 1906. It was inside Tom McClure's store. Later, other stores opened, run by people like B.B. Calfee and J.R. Snyder. Between 1908 and 1910, two churches were built. By 1914, the community had two cotton gins. These machines helped process cotton grown in the area.

Life in Bomarton included fun things like baseball games. It also had large areas for cows and their calves to graze. This was important for the local economy.

Population Changes Over Time

Bomarton's population grew quite a bit in its early years.

  • In 1920, about 580 people lived there.
  • By 1930, the population reached 600.
  • In 1940, it was 598 residents.

However, the population started to decline after World War II.

  • In 1960, only 150 people lived in Bomarton.
  • By 1980, the number dropped to 27.
  • In 1990, there were 23 residents.
  • The 2000 census recorded only 15 people.
  • In 2004, the population was 23.

Today, Bomarton is considered a ghost town because very few people live there.
