History of Boncarbo
Boncarbo was started in 1915 by a company called the American Smelting and Refining Company. This company was involved in mining and processing metals. The name "Boncarbo" comes from the French words bon carbon, which means "good coal."
The Boncarbo Post Office first opened its doors on November 15, 1917. Most of the coal dug up in Boncarbo was sent to a nearby place called Cokedale. There, the coal was turned into coke, a special fuel used in industries.
