Cokedale is a small town in Colorado, United States. It is located in Las Animas County. In 2020, about 127 people lived there. Cokedale used to be a town built around a coal mine.

History of Cokedale

Cokedale has an interesting past. It was first built as a "company town" for coal miners. This means the mining company owned most of the homes and businesses. The main reason Cokedale existed was because of the coal mine.

The coal mine was very important to the town for many years. But in 1947, the mine closed down. This was a big change for Cokedale.

In 2011, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake happened nearby. Cokedale was only about 5 miles from where the earthquake started.

Most of the town is part of the Cokedale Historic District. This district is a special area listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Being on this list means the town's buildings and history are important to save.
