Boody is a small place in Macon County, Illinois, in the United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city, but the government still counts its population.

In 2020, about 232 people lived in Boody. This was a little less than the 276 people who lived there in 2010. Boody has its own post office with the ZIP code 62514. The community was named after a person called Col William H Boody.

Where is Boody Located?

Boody is in the southwestern part of Macon County. You can find it along Illinois Route 48. It is about 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Decatur. Decatur is the main city in Macon County. Boody is also about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Taylorville.

The area of Boody is about 1.15 square miles (2.98 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Water from the community flows into Spring Creek. This creek eventually connects to the Sangamon River.

What is Boody Like?

Boody has a few local businesses that serve the community. One of these is Carl's Auto Sales, a used car dealership. It has been around for a very long time, since 1941. There is also a saw mill called Curry Sawmill.

A kind resident named Larry Warren lived in Boody for many years. When he passed away in 2003, he left his property to be made into a park. This park is now called Warren Park. You can find it right in the middle of Boody, off Route 48.

Boody's Water System

For a long time, Boody did not have a central water system. In 1998, a person named Joe Crump started the Boody Water Company. Their goal was to bring city water to everyone living in Boody. This big project was finished in 2007. Now, fresh water is piped into Boody from the nearby town of Macon. Boody even has its own water tower. It is located on the south side of town, also on Route 48.

Old Buildings in Boody

Boody has some interesting old buildings. The old Boody Elementary School used to be part of the Blue Mound School district. It is no longer a school. Instead, it is now a large five-bedroom house that is for sale.

There is also an old grain elevator in the center of Boody. A grain elevator is a tall building used to store grain. This one is not working anymore. It is also currently for sale.
