About Boogie Beebies
This show was all about teaching kids how to dance. Each episode was 15 minutes long. It featured a new dance to a special song every time. The show was first hosted by Nataylia "Nat" Roni and Pete Hillier. Nataylia had even performed in The Lion King musical before this.
Later on, from November 2006, Pete hosted the show by himself. He was joined by a new group of children called 'The Boogie Bunch'. Pete even got a cool nickname: 'Boogie Pete'. The show also included short videos of children dancing at home or school. Sometimes, they danced in front of a bluescreen. This is a special blue or green background. It lets filmmakers add different scenes behind the dancers.
How the Dances Were Taught
The presenters taught each dance step by step. In the first series, both presenters took turns teaching. The dance moves and songs were often inspired by nature. They also used ideas from the world around us. For example, "The Ocean Motion" had moves like sea creatures.
Every episode ended with a full performance of the dance. This was called "The Big Video". The presenters would shout, "Big Video Time!" to start it.
In the first series, one presenter was on a green screen set. It had yellow and green polka dots. The other presenter would go to a real place that matched the song. For instance, Pete might visit a construction site for the "Dig It" song. Nat might go to a flower garden for the "Gardening" song.
In the second series, Pete usually stood in front of a green screen. This screen showed the location instead of him going there. The Boogie Bunch also used the green screen for their dance tutorials. Pete also used the polka dot set, but the colors changed.
Show's Name and Advertising
The name Boogie Beebies comes from the word "boogie," which means to dance. "Beebies" is from the channel name, CBeebies. The show was advertised with a child dancing like John Travolta. They danced to the song "A Fifth of Beethoven" by Walter Murphy.
In 2020, it was announced that the show would return to CBeebies. The new host would be Oti Mabuse.
