Boondooma is a rural locality. This means it is a small community in a country area. It is part of the South Burnett Region in Queensland.
Geography of Boondooma
A big part of Boondooma's geography is the Boondooma Dam. This dam creates a large lake. The lake is on the border between Boondooma and a nearby place called Okeden. A main road, the Mundubbera-Durong Road, also runs through the area.

History of Boondooma
Boondooma has a history tied to its schools. Over the years, a few different schools served the area.
Early Schools
The first school in the area was Durong Provisional School. It opened on 3 September 1923. Later, on 7 November 1927, it became Durong State School. For a short time in 1928, the school closed because not enough students were attending.
Boondooma State School
A school named Boondooma State School opened in 1939. It was located on Brownless Road. This school closed its doors on 3 May 1968.
In 1970, the Durong State School was renamed Boondooma State School. This new Boondooma State School was at 9359 Mundubbera Durong Road. It continued to operate until December 1999, when it also closed. Today, this old school building is used as the Old Boondooma School Community Centre. It's a place for the community to gather.
Boondooma Homestead
One of the most important historical sites in Boondooma is the Boondooma Homestead. A homestead is a large, old farmhouse and its surrounding buildings. This homestead is so important that it is on a list of heritage-listed sites. This means it is protected because of its historical value. You can find it on the Mundubbera-Durong Road.
