Boquillas was once a small village in Texas, United States. It was located right on the northern side of the Rio Grande river. This river forms a natural border between the U.S. and Mexico. Boquillas was in Brewster County, about five miles (8 km) northeast of San Vicente. The village mainly existed to support the mining operations in Boquillas del Carmen, Mexico, which was just across the river.
Today, Boquillas is part of Big Bend National Park. It's now often called Rio Grande Village. This area has a ranger station and other buildings that help visitors explore the park.

A Look Back: Boquillas' History
Between 1901 and 1936, a woman named María G. Sada ran a special place called "Chata's Place." This was the only store and restaurant in the Boquillas area at that time. It served the people living and working there.
The Border Crossing
The border crossing that connected Boquillas in Texas to Boquillas del Carmen in Mexico was closed in 2002. This meant people couldn't easily go back and forth. However, on January 7, 2011, the U.S. National Park Service announced plans to open it again. After some delays, the border station finally reopened on April 11, 2013. It's an unmanned station, meaning there isn't a person there all the time, but it allows visitors to cross legally.
